Energised Communities: A New Opportunity for North Nibley

Severn Wye has launched “Energised Communities”, a programme to help rural areas develop local projects that save money, strengthen community spaces, and tackle climate change. North Nibley could take part – with ideas and leadership coming directly from residents.

Published: 29 September 2025

North Nibley residents are being invited to learn about a new programme called Energised Communities, led by Severn Wye and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. The programme will run until 2029 and aims to support a rural community in Stroud District to explore and develop projects that address local priorities while also acting on climate change.

The focus will be on themes such as:

  • Saving energy, money, and keeping warm

  • Making the most of community buildings and spaces

  • Supporting households and neighbours

  • Generating energy for community benefit

  • Food and growing projects

  • Reducing waste and thinking about what we buy

  • Transport and active travel

Any new initiatives must be led by the community, complementing and building on what already exists. Severn Wye’s role will be to act as a facilitator, helping to gather ideas, develop project plans, identify useful resources and funding, and empower residents to shape a shared vision.

At this stage, North Nibley is one of the rural areas being considered for support. If you are involved in a community group, service, or local project—or if you have ideas about gaps or opportunities in the parish—you are encouraged to get in touch.
